And they did tonight in Dyer? St. John? Crown Point? Cedar Lake? some town in Indiana against the Heritage Christian High Defenders. The winning streak looked safe early as Heritage's defense was weak and the Patriots jumped out to a 7-3 lead. But then the Defenders quickly tightened up their passing and evened the score at 9-9. Heritage crept out to a 15-12 lead, then poured it on for a 25-16 first game victory. The second game was close from the beginning throughout the whole game, but Heritage got the victory, 25-21 in a very exciting game. The third game started with Calumet/Calvary looking like they were ready to pack it in as they fell behind 15-5. They then began to rally behind some solid serving and overall better play and pulled to within three at 20-17. They couldn't sustain the momentum, however and fell 25-20.
Cal/Cal's weaknesses in coverage and passing were exposed by the solid front row play of the Heritage defenders. The Patriors couldn't get a lot of offense going because the poor passing led to scrambling setters which precluded hitting opportunities. Coverage shortcomings were exploited by deft dinking by the tall girls of Heritage.
Cal/Cal will have the chance to show that they corrected their problems this weekend as they participate in an tournament Friday and Saturday in Arlington Heights at Christian Liberty Academy. Their first game is at 1:00PM against Rockford Christian Life.
EDIT: I realized that I forgot to put in the JV and JH information. I will do that this evening. Until then I can tell you that both JH teams lost and the JV won.
