What a difference a day makes. Or, in this case, a week.
Or should I say, what a difference a ref makes.
The Patriots completed a season sweep of Stone Academy last night, 30-20, winning for the third time against the fiesty but overmanned (whatever their nicknames are. Does anyone know?) The game began with strong defense played by both teams, but the Patriots' long arms prevented Stone from getting many shots, while Stone's defense forced the Patriots into missed shots. Kara had several steals in the quarter, which ended with the Patriots ahead, 10-4.
The second quarter was similar to the first, with the exception of an unexpected three from Stone. The scoring mirrored the first quarter, and the halftime score was 20-8.
The third quarter found several starters on the bench for the Patriots, so the quarter was more competitive. Stone threw up some seemingly wild shots that went in. Despite this, the Patriots still outscored Stone 8-6 for the quarter, making the score at the end of three, 28-14.
In the fourth, the subs played significant minutes as well, but the fact that Stone outscored the Patriots 6-2 was more due to the shots not falling for the Patriots. They were also playing to protect the lead and did not take as many shots as they did earlier.
Mary led in scoring with 14, followed by Becca with six, Kara and Jackie with four and Michele had a basket. Becca led in rebounds with 10, with Mary and Alyssa following with five. Michele had three assists to lead the team.
The Patriots will have a quick turnaround for their next game, which is today at 3:15 at the Home Run Kids homeschool team in Gurnee. I won't be there, so hopefully somebody will track rebounds and assists for me.
