Valentine's Day, but no massacre

The girls traveled up to Arlington Heights last night to take on the Christian Liberty Chargers for the second time this season. We're not sure what team this was, as some of the girls were the same as last time we played and some were not. Whatever it was, they are still tall and skilled, and defeated the Patriots, 34-23.

The first quarter was the deciding one, as it often has been this year, with the girls falling far behind, and then having to play catch-up the rest of the game. Last night it was 14-2, Christian Liberty after one quarter. CL used a half-court trap in the quarter that the girls could not solve. That and the girls not being able to hang onto the ball nor being able to rebound resulted in the twelve point deficit.

The second quarter found CL dropping off on defense, which allowed the Patriots to rally, closing the gap to 20-13 at the half. (Also, three CL girls just up and left during the quarter. We found out later they were all heading to driver's ed.).

In the third quarter CL played tight man-to-man defense and outscored the Patriots 8-5. The fourth quarter was pretty even, with CL scoring six and the Patriots five, resulting in the final score.

Mary was nearly the entire offense in this one, scoring 16 of the 23 points. She also had five rebounds and two assists. Kara had four points (including a fast-break layup - yea!), one rebound, three assists and a steal. Becca, who just couldn't get a shot to fall, did end up with eight rebounds and a steal. Michele had the other field goal while also picking up two assists and a steal. Cassidy knocked down one free three to wrap up the scoring. Alyssa had a rebound and Jackie had two rebounds and a steal.

The Heritage game scheduled for tonight was cancelled due to their gym not being ready, so the next game is Monday at 2:30 against the Crossroads JV team in Yorkville, IL.
